OUR MISSION

We are an eco-tourism company owned and operated by Michael Bastarache. Explorer, artist, poet, musician, storyteller and proud Nova Scotian, Michael had worked in the boat building and lobster fishing industries before establishing Lunenburg Kayak Rentals in 2023 and adding floating cottages in 2025. The company was born from a desire to provide locals and visitors alike with a safe, enjoyable and memorable experience that has a positive impact on our community. Our goal is to showcase all that Lunenburg County and the Atlantic Ocean have to offer, while remaining dedicated to environmental preservation. We guarantee that your experience with us will be unique and charming, and that our staff will go above and beyond to make that happen. Whether you would like to have a private tour or maybe require special needs for your rentals, please let us know and we will try our best to accommodate. Our floating cottages are located just a 5 minute drive from the heart of Lunenburg and are nestled in calm waters where a trickling fresh waterfall meets a narrow, protected inlet of the beautiful Atlantic ocean. The land surrounding the inlet hold as much beauty as the ocean views you’ll get from the cottage. The Sunnybrook Mill Market is just a stones throw from our dock and open all year round from 10-5 pm every Saturday and Sunday. If you’re lucky enough to visit us on the weekend you’ll be able to check out some crafts or purchase locally grown food from the market. We have the most picturesque views of Lunenburg county shore. This location was not chosen just for convenience and close proximity to the bustling town, it was hand picked for its beauty and privacy.

BOAT RENTALS & TOURS: 138 Borgels Drive. Chester Basin, Nova Scotia B0J1K0

Our boat rentals & tours are located in beautiful Chester Basin. 45 minutes drive from Halifax, 25 minutes drive from Lunenburg and only 5 minutes from downtown Chester. Our property boasts a private dock, boat launch for easy access to and from the water, and plenty of parking for your group. The ocean surrounding our location is shallow near the shore and perfect for beginners looking to have a safe experience paddling in the Atlantic Ocean. Directly beside our property there are several shallow bays that are less daunting than the open ocean. For our more seasoned customers, there are the options of paddling to the white sand beach of Big Island or a trip down the shore to Gold River. This location was chosen for its close proximity to all the major tourism towns while still offering a private, relaxing paddling experience with several different options depending on your level of familiarity with boating.
